The Power of Collaboration in Your Wellness Journey

Over the years, I’ve learned something that has completely transformed the way I approach both my work and my own self-care: true healing doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens through collaboration.
I wholeheartedly encourage my clients to explore care from many wellness professionals. Acupuncturists, chiropractors, physical therapists, and yes… even other massage therapists. I never view this as “cheating.” In fact, I see it as one of the most empowering things you can do for your body. We all bring something unique and valuable to the table, and no single practitioner can be everything to everyone.
Just like in traditional medicine, you might absolutely love your primary care doctor but you still see a dermatologist, a cardiologist, or a kidney specialist when needed. Your wellness care should work the same way. Building a personal wellness team ensures that every part of you is supported with the right tools, at the right time.
It’s also important to have a team because sometimes life happens. Your preferred therapist may not have an opening at a time that works for you, and having a trusted backup ensures you never have to put your care on hold. I’m always happy to refer clients to members of my team, and I also confidently refer out to other trusted professionals when it’s in my client’s best interest.
I’m incredibly grateful to share space with two wonderful wellness businesses. Karen from Still Waters Massage by Karen O'Neill offers an incredibly soothing and intuitive massage and she also specializes in prenatal massage. Since I’m currently the only prenatal therapist on my team, it’s such a gift to be able to refer expecting clients to her rather than having to tell them I’m booked out for months.
I have also referred many clients to Charles at MaxBody Solutions for assisted stretching and let me tell you, once I experienced it myself, I absolutely understood why so many people benefit from it! Charles also offers massage therapy for those interested. I love the way Charles explains the difference between massage and stretching:
He describes the muscle like a rope with knots. Massage unties the knots, allowing the rope to return to its normal length. Stretching, on the other hand, actually pulls and lengthens the rope itself creating a whole different type of relief. Both are powerful, but in very different ways.
Personally, I work holistically, addressing the whole person, not just the area that hurts. My approach focuses heavily on activating the parasympathetic nervous system, my technique works best when the body feels safe and fully relaxed. Once that deep state of relaxation is achieved, I can then apply deeper pressure to reach chronic tension and long-held pain more effectively.
Courtney brings incredible precision to her work. She has a deep knowledge of anatomy and is exceptional at locating and relieving trigger points. She follows muscles from origin to insertion to trace pain back to its true source. Her work is incredibly effective for clients dealing with complex or persistent issues.
Erin’s background in energy work allows her to offer a massage that is gentle, nurturing, and surprisingly powerful. She doesn’t rely on force or deep pressure to create change, making her work perfect for clients who need pain relief without discomfort during the session.
I truly love having Courtney and Erin on my team at Well Rested Massage just as much as I love sharing space with Charles and Karen. Under one roof, we are three businesses and five licensed massage therapists, all working together to bring relief to Millbury and the surrounding towns.
Collaboration isn’t competition! It’s community. And I am endlessly grateful to work alongside such talented, compassionate professionals. I encourage every client to experience what each of us has to offer and to build a wellness team that supports every season of life.
Because when we work together, everyone heals better.
